Chaplain aboard the U.S.S. Hancock

My photo station on the U.S.S. Hancock was where the running water was located, so it also became an emergency hospital. Father Doyle spent a great deal of time there, providing support for the wounded men --- and sometimes delivering them their last rights. He had the qualities I was seeking in my work. I wanted to show, on film, the extraordinary potential of the human mind. Many times, Father Doyle sacrificed his own safety to protect someone else. I once told him that he should be more careful, but he said, "If my Father wants me elsewhere, there's no point in trying to delay it."
